A letter from Sue Gross concerning the situation in Haiti:
Dear Friends Of The Haitian Lutheran Mission Project,
Many of our teachers (we support 49) in the Jeremie District of Haiti have lost their homes and family members. We will do our best to send them funds to cover medical and funeral expenses. Some have said they have not eaten since the quake and they have no clean water. We are sending each family $200 immediately to purchase bottled water and rice.
It has been reported that some 30,000 families have lost their homes 1,400 have died and over 6000 injured people are trying to get medical care. Most of the damage has been in Les Cayes and Jeremie. I have been to the hospital in Jeremie, it is small, under staffed and has few supplies.
The roads from Jeremie have been closed by landslides so that the injured cannot get medical assistance from other areas.
Yesterday one of our former orphans messaged me that he and his sister are sleeping outdoors because it is not safe indoors due to the aftershocks collapsing more buildings. Today I was informed that the rains from the tropical storm Grace are flooding the area. They are predicting up to 15 inches causing landslides and flooding.
We still have not heard from Pastor Isaac but we have friends in Haiti that are trying to reach other people we know.
Please continue to pray for Haiti especially those in the Jeremie District which was very near the epicenter.
If you would like to donate to our efforts to help the people of Jeremie you can make checks payable to the Haitian Lutheran Mission Project (address below).
We make sure every penny goes to the people of Haiti that are in need. We do not go through government agencies and your donations are tax deductible.
