The Easter feast loudly proclaims Christ’s victory over the grave. The “first day of the week” becomes the Lord’s Day. The joyful “alleluia” sounds forth anew. “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” Thus, the Old Testament Reading from Isaiah tells us of God’s plan and promise of a whole new creation of life. The Epistle assures that death itself has been vanquished by Christ. The Gospel tells of the women’s visit to the tomb “on the first day of the week, at early dawn” (Lk 24:1) and the angels’ announcement, “He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you” (24:6). Today we remember and celebrate that death is defeated, new life is ours, and Christ is here with us.
