The Second Sunday in Advent focuses on John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus. This man of God burst on the scene proclaiming a Baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The Lord Himself is coming. John is His advance team to prepare the people for His arrival, as Isaiah announces in the Old Testament Reading (Is 40:1-11)
